Franceska Elias, a retired Ellenville teacher and dedicated community member, was honored this spring as a “Distinguished Friend of Education.” The annual award, given by the Ulster County School Boards Association (UCSBA), recognizes residents from the county’s school districts and Ulster BOCES for their dedication and commitment to students and schools.
Ellenville Central School District Board of Education President Philip Mattracion presented the award to Elias at the UCSBA’s annual dinner in May.
Elias has dedicated her life to friends and family, and to a long and outstanding career as a teacher. She truly cared about each student she taught. She often spent money out of her own pocket to help feed and clothe students and even made sure they had presents on their birthdays and on holidays.
Even now, Elias continues to contribute to school scholarships and works as a substitute during the summer months. She is more than deserving of this award!
