Matthew Salamone

The Ellenville Central School District is pleased to welcome Matthew Salamone as its new Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics.

Salamone, who assumed his new position on July 1, comes to Ellenville from SUNY Sullivan, where he worked for nearly three years as an assistant professor who taught students in Physical Education (P.E.) and Sports Management tracks.  “I enjoyed teaching aspiring P.E. teachers and coaches while sharing my own experiences in education,” Salamone said. Prior to that, Salamone worked for five years as a teacher of physical education, health, and sports management at the New York City (NYC) Charter High School for Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Industries (AECI) in the Bronx. At AECI, he was the founding athletic director, and led the school to multiple NYC Championships for the NYC Charter School Athletic Association. Afterward, he taught the same subject for another five years at the Wings Academy, also in the Bronx. In addition, he served as a Varsity Basketball coach for ten years.  After graduating from the College of Mount Saint Vincent with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science, Salamone went on to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching with a focus on Physical Education and Sports Pedagogy from Manhattanville College. In addition, he holds School District Leadership and School Building Leadership certificates from Canisius College.

Salamone is excited to begin his next chapter at Ellenville. “I find Ellenville especially appealing because of the entire community’s passion, dedication, and energy for athletics,” he said. “I look forward to working with the administrators, coaches, teachers, and students to continue to move this program forward.” In his spare time, Salamone enjoys spending time with his family. All three of his children participate in athletics, so he often watches and even serves as a coach at their games. He also stays active through hiking, exercise, and basketball.
