As part of the Farm to School program that relaunched this year at Ellenville Elementary School, students were recently treated to fresh watermelon juice with mint, prepared using local watermelons and mint from Great Joy Family Farm in Pine Bush. Students could opt for “just a sip” samples for tasting and/or full-size portions offered with their lunch. Afterward, they voted on whether they liked the juice or not—and all were commended for trying something new. The Farm to School program is made possible through a partnership with the Cornell Cooperative Extension, the Rondout Valley Growers Association, and local farms.
