Students and staff at Ellenville Junior/Senior High School took a pause on March 20 to recharge and relax. During this annual “Wellness Day,” our Blue Devils were reminded that it’s important to prioritize their well-being.
At the Junior High School, students signed up for their preferred activity prior to the event—and there was plenty to choose from! Options included arts and crafts, “stress ball making,” “spa manicures,” caring for spider plants, retro video games, and so much more. In addition, students could make “warm, fuzzy” necklaces out of sensory-friendly yarn, and play interactive games that helped them get to know one another.
At the Senior High, each classroom teacher had students doing something fun or relaxing, whether it was working on puzzles, participating in computer activities, or snacking on healthy food. In Rebecca Burke’s class, students practiced chair yoga and hand reflexology techniques, and recited some powerful self-affirmations.
Students in Grades 7-12 also attended an informative presentation on “Teen Vaping,” which was led by Susan Baxter from Teen Intervene. Then, during a spirited game of “Jeopardy!,” the students had the chance to show off their own knowledge of the targeted advertising and marketing techniques that make teens vulnerable to vaping. The auditorium came alive, as student volunteers became contestants and audience members eagerly shared their input.
The day offered an excellent opportunity for the whole school community to take a break from their daily routines and to connect through shared interests!
