Our Capital Project construction teams have been busy this summer wrapping up the latest round of renovations across the District. The daily progress they make is astonishing, and we can't wait for our students and families to see it in September!
At the Elementary School, the old library has been transformed into a suite of spaces dedicated to providing Special Education services, with the finishing touches being added this week. We're continuing to settle into the school’s new library/media center, which we moved into last school year and looks fabulous!
When they return to school next week, Elementary School students and families will also notice a new entrance, main office, and nurse's office, which have been redesigned to improve safety and security. The new configuration allows guests to wait in a security vestibule, where they can be screened before gaining access to the building. The vestibule also provides a place for families to wait for a child to be brought to them from the nurse or main office. Doors at the Elementary School were also equipped with auto-closing/locking devices, ensuring an instant secured classroom environment in the event of an emergency situation.
At the Junior/Senior High School, aged and worn seating in the auditorium has been replaced, walls and ceiling paint has been refreshed, and a new control booth will be ready for our students when they return next week. Work on the entrance and lobby area is also underway to create a security vestibule, which will be completed shortly. The multi-media space used to broadcast the Television/Radio station is also being expanded and reconstructed, and will soon be ready for students to apply the skills and knowledge they learn in the classroom to their productions.
Additional work that has been completed includes repointing exterior bricks to prevent moisture and water from entering the building, and reconfiguring the Central Administration entrance to create a secured area for visitors, along with a new window for business transactions, such as the collection of taxes, to occur without needing admission into the offices.
We are so grateful for the community's support of the 2019 Capital Project that made these changes possible.
