A few important things to keep in mind:
Students are expected to attend school daily. Absences should be for excused reasons only.
Students who are absent from school should bring in a note upon their return and check in with their teacher to make up missed assignments.
Students who miss 10% or more (18+ days) of the school year are considered chronically absent. This includes excused and unexcused absences. If your child consistently misses 2+ days of school per month, they run the risk of becoming identified as chronically absent.
Students who are identified as chronically absent each year (K-12) will miss more than an entire year of schooling (180 days) by the time they reach Grade 12. (13 years x 18 days per year = 234 days)
If needed, we are happy to partner with you to improve your child's attendance. Please reach out to your child's principal to collaborate on an improvement plan.
