Capital Project Plans Modified

In response to concerns raised by the community, Ellenville Central School District’s proposed 2024 Capital Project has been modified and the Grade 7-8 Band Room will remain in its existing location.

District voters go to the polls Dec. 3 to vote on the project, which includes significant investments in safety, infrastructure, and outdoor facilities. Initial plans included the relocation of the Grade 7-8 Band Room to make way for the expansion of the adjacent weight room.

After careful consideration of feedback that was recently received, the Ellenville School Board and district administration have revised the plan, leaving the Grade 7-8 Band Room untouched.

“The community spoke up and the Board of Education listened,” said Superintendent Lisa A. Wiles. “This updated plan strikes a balance between the growing needs of our athletic programs and maintaining the integrity of Ellenville’s thriving performing arts. Our goal, as always, is to foster an environment where all students can excel, whether in the classroom, on the field, or in the band room.”

The revised plan places the proposed Fitness Center in unutilized space that was once a Middle School library. Currently, all students in Grades 7-12 use the Jr/Sr High School Media Center.

The Fitness Center will be larger than the existing weight room, increasing occupancy and creating space for additional cardio, strength training, and other exercise equipment for students. The Fitness Center would be used by all Jr/Sr High School students as part of the physical education program during the school day, open to all students to use for additional personal fitness and wellness needs, and by student-athletes for workouts and conditioning,
