The Ellenville Central School District hosted its fifth annual Athletic Hall of Fame induction on October 14. Honored during the ceremony, which was held inside the new Ellenville Elementary School cafeteria, were two former Blue Devil athletes, a Varsity Boys Basketball championship team, and a longtime coach. These individuals were recognized for making significant contributions to Ellenville athletics while exemplifying good character, sportsmanship, and leadership.
First up to be honored was Sara Finkbeiner, a 2006 Ellenville High School (EHS) graduate who earned Hall of Fame status for her achievements in softball. Joining her in the Class of 2023 was John Paulsen, a 2011 graduate of EHS who was inducted for his outstanding accomplishments in soccer, basketball, and track.
The 1966-1967 Varsity Boys Basketball team was inducted for finishing their season 18-3 and winning the Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, and Orange Championship. Present during the ceremony to accept the honor in person were former teammates Tom Murray, Nate Shorter, and Howie Lipson.
Rounding out the Class of 2023 is Frank Muller, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his success as a Varsity Golf coach. Muller led the Blue Devils to more than 400 career wins.
Established in 2018 by former Ellenville teacher and coach and current Board of Education trustee John Burns, the Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes athletes, coaches, and other individuals for their outstanding accomplishments. Nominations are reviewed and voted on annually by the Hall of Fame Committee, with selected honorees being inducted each fall.
