On November 14, Ellenville Elementary School students were treated to a very special magic show and a powerful message from the “Great and Powerful Dave.”
In this high-energy show, students were not just amazed by Dave’s tricks and amused by his jokes—but they also learned about bullying prevention and character education. Part of the learning included what is and what is not bullying, and how to use “CLEAR” (Calm and Confident, Leave, Enlist Upstanders, Assert Yourself, Report) strategies to fight bullying. The students enjoyed volunteering and participating as an audience in hilarious skits where they identified a bully, practiced CLEAR protocol, and worked on recognizing when it is appropriate to apologize for one’s behavior.
There was much laughter, whooping, and a great round of applause for Dave as the show concluded. What a great morning of learning AND fun!
