Ellenville Elementary School’s musicians and singers had a chance to show off their skills to two appreciative audiences on December 13, with a daytime performance for their classmates and an evening performance for families and friends.
Featured were the Fifth and Sixth Grade Bands, as well as the Fifth and Sixth Grade Chorus. The Fifth Grade Band, directed by Madeson Van Wagenen, treated audiences to three folk songs: “Au Claire De La Lune,” “Cardiff by the Sea,” and “Hot Cross Buns.” The Sixth Grade Band, directed by Christina Schoonmaker, tackled such musical numbers as “Enchantment” by Brian Balmages and “Stormchasing” by William Owens, which included some fun audience participation of finger-snapping. In addition, their performance of “Thumbs Up!” by Heather Hoefle included solo accompaniment from the clarinet section. The Chorus, directed by Margo Marusek, performed some great songs, including “First Flakes” (perfect for the holidays) by Amy Bernon, “Siyahamba,” a Zulu folk song arranged by Sally Albrecht, and a fun song with plenty of movement called “It’s Snow Fun! It’s No Fun!” by John Jacobson and Cristi Cary Miller.
Congratulations to all the musicians for a wonderful performance!
