Earlier this month, Ellenville Elementary School (EES) students showed their commitment to being kind and considerate community members by reciting and signing the “No Place for Hate” pledge. First, students were read the pledge by their teacher, either in English or Spanish. Then, as part of their promise to do their best to be kind, treat others fairly, and report bullying whenever they see it, they signed their names on yellow paper handprints (yellow is one of the official colors of the “No Place for Hate” program).
In order to become a “No Place for Hate” community, schools need to develop and implement at least three school-wide activities that enhance students’ understanding of diversity, bias, inclusion, and more. Their pledges are then submitted to the local Anti-Defamation League and the school can be declared a “No Place for Hate” community.
Congratulations to all those who are helping make EES the kind of school community that shows kindness and caring towards others!
