This past spring, representatives from the Wild Earth program visited Ellenville Elementary School twice a week to provide students with unique outdoor experiences that were designed to help foster their physical, emotional, and social growth.

Based out of High Falls, the Wild Earth program helps children form strong connections to themselves, each other, and the Earth. By engaging in nature-themed activities, students not only learn new skills, but also develop a deeper sense of gratitude, respect, and commitment to taking care of the planet.

Facilitated by a team of inspiring mentors, the 12-week program was offered during recess time at Ellenville, and focused on various topics such as mammals, birds, trees, art, orienteering, music, geology, and more. Each theme was complemented by high-energy games, including kickball, basketball, and Four Square. Activities were adjusted to be developmentally appropriate, ensuring that all students could participate and enjoy the experience.

The program left a lasting impression on students, helping them build character and confidence while fostering a deep appreciation for the natural world.

"The program was invaluable,” shared school lunch aide Jackie Mennella. “The kids just loved it!"
