Ellenville is excited to announce the winners of the annual Ellenville NAACP's Black History Month Contest! This year's theme was "Black Jobs: Then and Now."
First place winner, Grade 10 student Ja’nylah Jones (not pictured), did her report on Clara Day. Runners-up Chelsey Valdez (Grade 5) and Emalina Valdez (Grade 4) did their reports on Harriet Tubman and Satchel Paige, respectively.
At an awards ceremony held at the Jr/Sr High School on February 27, each received a certificate and a bag of meaningful goodies, which included a copy of "Freedom Walkers: The Story of the Montgomery Bus Boycott" by Russell Freedman.
Ellenville NAACP members were on hand to present the students with their prizes and praise all who participated in the contest. We, too, are proud of our Ellenville students for digging deep into these important historical figures.
